One Body

Just about every night for the past 3-5 years I have read Romans 12.  In my most read bible version, (King James/Amplified parallel bible) this section (chapter 12) is called “Christian Conduct.”  The Orthodox Study Bible and the NIV Study Bible I have divided the Chapter into different sections, but in general I think that “Christian Conduct” covers the entire chapter very well.

The Bible says in Romans 12:4-5, “for as in one physical body we have many parts (organs, members) and all of these parts do not have the same function or use, so we, numerous as we are , are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and individually we are parts one of another [mutually dependent on one another].

The Bible uses our own bodies as the example here.  Think about it; on a normal basis do we walk on our hands?  No, God gave us feet to walk on.  Do we eat with our eyes?  No, God gave us a mouth for eating.  Can we see through our ears?  No, God gave us eyes to see.  I think you are getting the picture.  Each part of our body has a specific purpose,  job, or what ever you want to call it.  In the same way we are one body in Christ.  Each of us has a job, but if we all do the same job, well, then not much would get done.  Think about it.  If we all didn’t have a mouth we could not eat and therefore we would die of starvation.  It we did not have lungs we could not breathe and we would die of lack of oxygen.

The point I am making is that each of us has a purpose, a special job we were created to do.  Some of us already know what it is and others of us haven’t quite figured it out yet.  Your job, task, or whatever you want to call it may be very different than our neighbors.  God could have created you to be a priest, pastor, preacher, etc.  He could have created you to help orphans and/or widows.  He could have you be an evangelist.  God, in His plans for you, could have you feed the hungry.  He could have created you to fund different ministries, etc. that are doing His work.  God could have you minister to one person, or an entire nation.  He may have created you to pray for people who are in need of prayer.  I may not be able to tell you what God created you to do, but God knows exactly what He was doing when He created you.  The point is that in order for our body to function properly every part must do its job.  So whether you were created to have conferences around the world, or give a child a home, your purpose is very important.  There are some purposes we all share though.  Even though all our body parts have different functions, they all, for example, work towards keeping you alive.  We all must love Jesus.  Mark 16:15 gives us another task each of us has.  Mark 16:15 reads, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.”  The amplified adds, “[of the whole human race].”

No matter what purpose God created you for, live Colossians 3:17 which reads, “And whatever you do [no matter what it is] do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His person giving praise to God the Father through Him.” You do what you can do and let Jesus fill in the parts you can’t do.  God loves each and every one of us and wants us all to be a part of His family in Heaven.  That is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross so our sins could be forgiven.  Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, repent of your sins, make Jesus your Lord of your life.  I know I have.  And I’ll tell you I am full of joy.  Thank you Jesus! Glory to Your Name!
