Favorite Book

There are 27 books in the New Testament. Depending on which version of the bible you read, there are 38 books in the Old Testament (Protestant versions), 46 books in the Catholic version of the Old Testament, and 49 books in the Orthodox version of the Old Testament.  The King James Version, NIV Version, etc. that are found in most book stores are Protestant versions.  From what I have seen, if the bible version is Orthodox, than it says Orthodox on it.  I think Catholic bible is the same way, but I do not own a Catholic bible version so I really do not know.  I like how Pastor John Hagee explains the difference between the Old and New Testaments.  He said this in one of his sermons, “the Old Testament is God’s plan concealed, and the New Testament is God’s plan revealed.”  I noticed that the New Testament is much easier to understand than the Old Testament for the most part.  James 4:4 reads, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” We need to read the bible in order to know what the word is. We need to know the word so we can be a doer of the word.

My favorite book in the Old Testament is probably Genesis.  In the new Testament I have two favorite books, the Gospel of Matthew and Colossians. Please leave me a comment telling me what your favorite book in the bible is.

My favorite book in the Old Testament is Genesis because it introduces foundational ideas of a Biblical Christian Worldview.

Moses gave this book to Israel right before they crossed the Jordan after watching their parents perish in the wilderness because of unbelief. Their parents had been slaves in Egypt and had not known their God. So God gave Israel a book about their beginnings to be the foundation of a new Worldview that was entering into the earth. It is the beginning of God’s redemptive story!

Ephesians is my favorite book in the New Testament. I like it because I need it so desperately to remember who I am in Christ.

Whenever I am having one of those doubtful days, I can read Ephesians and remember what God has done and who He has made me to be: “Created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life!”

Interesting way you put Genesis. I never thought of it as a beginning of God’s redemptive story…Thanks
