Many things in life we take for granted. One of those things I just realized as I was writing this post and reading in Genesis is day and night. We think day and night were always there, but Genesis 1:3-5 reads, “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. Then He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light ‘day’ and the darkness ‘night.’ And everything passed marking the first day.”

Within these verses we see the creation of the first day. Yes I knew God created the first day, but I just read it, I never actually thought about it. Before this there was no day and night as far as we know. Everywhere was dark on earth. Imagine waking up in the morning with no sun. Many people in the far north and far south have longer day hours some parts of the year and longer night hours other times of the year. Living in Florida we have a good amount of both no matter what time of the year it is. Imagine if we had no day at all. Everything would be so gloomy and dark all the time.

Having the sun up in the morning is something that I know I take for granted. I don’t like when we are in daylight savings time as much and I wake up and it is still dark outside.

Today I thank God that we have days and nights and that He created the sun, moon, and stars so that we are not in total darkness. Have a wonderful day today.
