The amplified bible reads in Colossians 3:13, “as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must also [forgive].” Forgiveness is a free gift from God. This is what Jesus was sent here to do, die on the cross so our sins can be forgiven. You can read about what happened in Luke 4:1-13. Since Jesus is our example we should do what He did. Romans 12:20 reads, “on the contrary: ‘if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.” Romans reads in 12:17, “repay no one evil for evil.” If someone does something to offend you, be kind to them anyway. That means that we should forgive everyone. Jesus forgives us and He is our example. Therefore we need to forgive. Romans 12:20 continues, ” for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.” If someone keeps doing things to annoy you on purpose, be extra nice to them. It will drive them nuts. Always forgive and show kindness. How many times should I forgive? The bible reads in Matthew 18:21-22,”Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? The bible says in Romans 12:21, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” We need to always overcome evil with good. God is good, so since we are suppose to live as He wants us to live we need to over come evil with good. Remember Jesus is our example. He never overcame evil with evil. Jesus conquered death, hell, and sin because He was blameless, sinless, and died on the cross and is resurrected so our sins are forgiven and we can live in heaven with Him forever.
